The World Aquatics Performance report helps coaches and club administrators review swimmer and roster performance using World Aquatics points.
Unlike a regular best-times report, this report helps compare performances across different events. A 50 Free, 200 Back, and 400 IM cannot be meaningfully compared by time alone. World Aquatics points provide a standardized score that makes those performances easier to compare.
This report can help coaches identify standout swims, roster strengths, age-group trends, stroke strengths, distance strengths, and overall team depth.
What are World Aquatics points?
World Aquatics points are a standardized score assigned to a swim based on the event, time, course, and swimmer gender.
Higher point values indicate stronger performances. Because the score is standardized, it can be used to compare swims across different events more fairly than using time alone.
For example, a swimmer’s best 100 Breaststroke and another swimmer’s best 200 Freestyle may both be strong swims, but the times cannot be compared directly. World Aquatics points help place those swims on a common scale.
When should coaches use this report?
This report is useful when coaches want to look beyond individual best times and understand broader performance patterns.
Common uses include:
- Reviewing team performance at the end of a season
- Comparing roster strength across training groups
- Identifying swimmers with strong all-around performance
- Finding stroke or distance strengths within the club
- Spotting areas where the program may need more development
- Comparing short course and long course performance
- Preparing coach meeting or board-level summaries
- Recognizing top swims in a more objective way
Choosing report filters
The report includes several filters so you can focus the analysis.
Season registered
Selects the season used to determine which registered swimmers are included.
Roster
Limits the report to one or more rosters. This is useful when reviewing a specific training group or comparing multiple groups.
Times since / through
Controls the result date range. Use this to review a full season, a specific training cycle, or a smaller window such as championship meets.
Avg Top N
Controls the summary score shown for swimmers, rosters, and groups.
The default value is suitable for most coaching reviews. You can adjust this value if you want the report to focus on a narrower or broader set of top performances.
Gender
Limits the report to female or male swimmers, or leaves the report open to all swimmers.
Age as of
Controls the date used to calculate swimmer ages.
This is useful when reviewing age-group performance based on a specific date, such as the end of the season or a championship meet.
Min Age / Max Age
Limits the report to swimmers within a specific age range.
Course
Filters results by short course, long course, or both.
Distance
Filters results by selected distances.
Stroke
Filters results by selected strokes.
Display options
Show Charts
Displays visual charts at the top of the report.
Charts are useful for quickly identifying trends without reading the full table.
Show Table
Displays the detailed table below the charts.
Use this when you want to review the roster, swimmer, and performance values behind the charts.
Include member details
Adds swimmer-level rows to the table.
Use this when you want to drill into individual swimmer performance. Leave it off when you only need roster or gender summaries.
Include Top Swims Detail
Adds additional rows showing the top swims behind the summary values.
Use this when you want to see which swims are driving the report results.
Understanding the charts
The report may include several charts, depending on the selected options and available data.
Roster and gender comparison
This chart compares roster performance broken down by gender.
It can help coaches identify differences in roster depth and performance balance. For example, one roster may show stronger female depth, while another may show stronger male depth.
Age comparison
This chart shows how performance compares across age groups.
It can help identify which age ranges are currently strongest and where development may be needed.
Stroke comparison
This chart shows performance trends by stroke and gender.
It can help identify stroke strengths and weaknesses across the team. For example, the report may show that freestyle and backstroke are strong, while breaststroke or butterfly may need more attention.
Distance comparison
This chart groups swims by distance category.
It can help coaches see whether the team is strongest in sprint, middle-distance, or distance events.
Understanding the table
The table provides the detailed report values.
Depending on the options selected, it may include roster rows, gender summary rows, swimmer rows, and top swim detail rows.
Best WA
The highest World Aquatics point swim shown for that row.
This is useful for identifying peak performance.
Avg Top N
A summary score used to compare swimmers, rosters, and groups.
This is useful when reviewing broader performance, not just a single standout swim.
SC Swims / LC Swims
The number of short course and long course swims included in the report.
This helps provide context. A group with very few swims may have less reliable comparisons than a group with a larger result set.
Swims
The total number of swims included for that row.
Best Event, Best Time, Best Course, Best Date
These fields identify the strongest swim shown for that row.
Suggested coaching workflows
Season review
Run the report for the full season.
Use the roster and age charts to identify which groups performed strongest overall. Then enable member details to review the swimmers contributing to those results.
Roster review
Select one or more rosters and compare their summary scores, best WA scores, short course swims, and long course swims.
This can help coaches understand roster depth and whether a group is showing balanced performance across multiple event types.
Stroke analysis
Filter the report by stroke, or review the stroke chart across all strokes.
This can help identify program strengths and areas that may need more training focus.
Distance analysis
Use the distance chart to compare sprint, middle-distance, and distance performance.
This can help coaches see whether the team is heavily sprint-oriented or has balanced performance across race distances.
Championship meet review
Set the result date range around a championship meet.
This creates a focused view of how swimmers performed at a key competition, using WA points instead of manually comparing different events.
Recognizing top performers
Use Best WA to identify peak swims.
Use the report’s summary scores to identify swimmers and groups that are showing strong performance across more than one result.
These values are useful together. Best WA highlights the single strongest swim. The summary score helps coaches review broader performance patterns.
Best practices
For most reports, start with the default settings.
Use Best WA when you want to identify the single strongest swim.
Use the report’s summary scores when you want to evaluate broader swimmer or roster performance.
Use roster and gender summaries before drilling into swimmer details.
Use date filters when comparing specific parts of a season.
Use course filters carefully. Short course and long course results can both be useful, but they may tell different stories.
Notes
The report only includes swims where World Aquatics points are available.
If no results appear, try broadening the filters. For example, include both courses, remove stroke or distance filters, or expand the result date range.
